Karen's work has always followed the field of Non Objective, Concrete Art using painting, drawing and sculpture to expose line, repetition and colour.
In her current series of works she uses a simple framework of ratio related areas with close attention to color, either mixed on the palette or created on the support by layering and often removed by combing.
Colour is used intuitively, to transcend the formal basis and make the work feel authentic and imbued with a human spirit.
The aim is for the finished works to create an intimate connection between artist and viewer, to invite the viewer up close to spend time looking and encourage contemplation – a brief respite within the ever increasing pace of contemporary life.
