Servi van Grinsven (1959) has been exhibiting regularly since 1989. He has built up his own specific oeuvre, unrelated to any particular tendencies, in which he examines the possibilities of painting.
His painting was initially totally abstract, but his visual idiom has since evolved towards ostensibly simple, recognisable images.
Van Grinsven makes you aware of the fact that painting involves creating a certain illusion that results from an extremely consistent use of a visual language with all its freedoms and restrictions.
Using transparent, subdued colours, his aim is not simply to copy reality, but rather to reformulate it.
He goes in search of contemporary images, making reference to his own visual experience and designation of place and space.
