While Imbeau’s art utilizes disparate materials, it is unified in theme and how she approaches each medium. She values creating work that relies heavily on the use of her hands and the sensation of physical touch, as it allows her to become acquainted with, and subsequently led by, the materials. Her experimental approach to the use of materials also allows her to think of the mediums used as partners in the creative process. For instance, photos taken on old polaroid film create shapes and colors that could not have been planned, and the breaks, cracks and peculiarities of ceramics become suggestions for manipulations or changes of the form of the work being created.
